Masakhane Creche and Development Centre was founded in May 2004 to provide classrooms, teaching, aftercare, meals and accommodation for orphaned and underprivileged children in Eastwood, Pietermaritzburg and surrounding township communities.
Children between the ages of 1-6 are the most vulnerable group in our society. They need safety, food security and education to help them to fully develop at this crucial age.
As a registered NPO, our mission is to provide a safe space for “at risk” children. Mrs Ndlovu created the Masakhane Creche and Development Centre when she saw that many young children were in dire need of education and a safe environment where they can be taught the fundamental basics to ensure proper developmental growth.
Many of these children come from:
We also cater for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) who come to us after being abandoned by their families and most lack basic parental care, facing a myriad of challenges.
We need urgent funding to expand our facility and to accommodate the surging number of children who need care. COVID has impacted many families in our community making them unable to provide for their children.
